Volunteering Events for 2011 - 2012

As well as annual events such as the Volunteering Fair, the Awards Ceremony and a presence at Freshers' Fair and the Careers Fair, this year sees the launch of a series of workshops to help students get the most out of volunteering.  There will also be opportunities for both staff and students to learn how volunteering can support and enhance the academic experience, providing skills and practical knowledge that can improve future career prospects.

For details of times, venues and how to sign up to any workshop or other volunteering event please contact the Volunteering Co-ordinator|.

2011 Annual Volunteering Awards Ceremony

Held Wednesday May 18th 2011 at 6:00pm in the Social Learning Zone.

The evening was a great success with more than a hundred certificates earned by students for a wide range of volunteering activities, including being a course representative, volunteering with the Students' Union radio or newspaper, helping at Freshers' Fair, Job Fair or Volunteering Fair, volunteering with organisations such as Addaction, Bolton At Home, Bolton FM, local CICs or helping with workshops for the Bolton Children's Book Award.  Their roles and activities have been many and varied.

This year there were also awards recognising and acknowledging the volunteering co-ordinators or managers at these organisations, who provide so much support for students volunteering with them.

More than sixty individuals were able to attend in person and we were delighted that Prof. Rob Campbell, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, was able to present all the certificates and say a few words of encouragement and congratulation of the volunteers' achievements.

Following the presentations, students, staff and guests were able to meet and chat over the delicious selection of canapes and drinks provided by the University's catering staff.
