Professional Biography:
I am a Geotechnical Consultant with in excess of 30 years of combined industrial and academic experience involving civil engineering and construction related projects. I am currently employed as a Senior Lecturer in the School of the Built Environment and Engineering at the University of Bolton and have responsibility for teaching Geotechnics , Contaminated Land Risk Assessment and Environmental Management
I was originally a member of staff at Bolton Institute of Higher Education as a Senior Lecturer from 1992 to 2000 but then, after a short period at University of Salford from 2000 to 2002, took what amounts to be effectively an 'industrial sabbatical' period until 2007. This has seen me travelling and working on a variety of challenging and prestigious geotechnical projects across the UK, Europe and Internatonally.
I am passionate about ensuring that all students at Bolton experience the very best education possible and are also so well versed in industrial needs in the construction sector that they become valuable Employees within a very short period of time of their qualification.
My personal mission in life is to encourage as many graduates as possible to have the same interest in "Practical Geotechnics" that I do. To convert even a handful of students into practising Geotechnical Engineers would be seen by me as a great personal achievement.
