This group has achieved multi-disciplinary and collaborative research programme successes with funding secured from the DTI, EPSRC and a large number of UK and overseas companies. Major research outcomes have been obtained in understanding the durability of sensory and mechanical properties of textiles, in modelling structural/property relationships of dust and wet filtration media, in geosynthetics and, in introducing functionality (eg.electromagnetic interference and heatability), in developing novel composite materials for personal protective equipment and in establishing the potential use of recycled textile waste for high performance acoustic fabrics and technical fabrics. Achievements include one patent granted and two applications (2006, 2007).
