The School research team contribute to six research groups within the University:

• The Mechanical Structures Group (MSG) – engineering composites for aero/auto applications
• The Technical Textiles Group (TTG)– advanced flexible materials for technical end-uses
• The Fire Materials Group (FMG) – fire-smart materials
• The Smart Materials and Systems Group (SMSG) – sensored and smart materials and MEMS
• The Biohealth and Medical Devices Group (BMDG) – biomaterials and medical devices
