BEng in Electronic and Computer Engineering
Electronics is Interesting and Fun to Study
Electronics graduates are employed in a wide range of interesting and rewarding sectors of business and commerce, such as medical electronics, leisure, entertainment, communications, aerospace and the automobile industry: there are many more. From the outset of your BEng course at Bolton you will be engaged in developing skills that are in demand by companies in both the UK and worldwide. Projects are a major feature of each year of the course, and you will be able to undertake a project in the final year that is of direct interest to you and will help you with job applications and interviews.
How this course will help you get a good job
Nationally, there is a serious shortage of graduates able to provide the electronics and computing expertise needed across all sectors of industry.
High salaries and attractive working environments combine with stimulating intellectual challenges and career advancement opportunities. A typical starting salary for a new electronics graduate is £18k to £24k per annum.
How you will study
Learning is achieved through lectures, practical work and tutorials, supported by considerable hands-on use of computers and advanced technical equipment. The application of ideas, principles and techniques is emphasised by the use of experimentation and project work, together with relevant case studies. Projects form about one third of each year.

Bolton's graduates are in great demand because of their practical experience. Recent graduates cite the experience gained using industry standard software tools and the competencies developed within the project work as key factors in obtaining interviews and employment.
Electronic & Computer Engineering also offers good employment prospects internationally, because the working language throughout the sector is predominantly English, and the major design support-tools use English. ECE graduates are also highly employable in other areas, especially in finance; business and management.
HND Electronic & Computer Engineering
The department runs a 2 year HND and it is possible to transfer to the BEng course provided your grades are satisfactory.
