Integrated Circuit Design and Manufacture (ICDM)
Digital Signal Processing and Applications (DSPA)
Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS)

1995

Three additional BEng (Hons) awards:

Instrumentation & Control
Integrated Circuit Design

Energy Management Control Systems

1996

First User Action (FUSE) contract awarded to Bolton Institute by the European Commission, extending the work of MiB.  Bolton became one of six "Technology Transfer Nodes" in the UK helping companies exploit microelectronics. The contract was renewed annually to the end of the FUSE programme in 2000.

1997

MSc Advanced Microelectronics for Industrialists jointly validated with the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, with distance delivery over the internet.  By default the validation did not include delivery overseas.  EPSRC funding of £340k over 4 years.

1997

Agreement with the University of Paderborn, Bolton's twin town in Germany, to franchise an MSc course in Electronic Systems and Engineering Management to the Soest campus.  This gave students the opportunity to gain a qualification not otherwise then available in Germany.  The Soest campus is now part of the University of Applied Sciences South-Westfalia.

1997

Latest IEE accreditation visit for undergraduate programmes.  No negative comments.

1999

EU Leonardo da Vinci programme funded Microelectronics in Business (MIND) to develop distance learning materials for delivery over the internet.  Programme led by Bolton and involved six European partners.

1999

Bolton and two local partners awarded £960k funds from DfES Centres of Excellence for IT and High Technology Training.  Funds used to purchase multi-processor unix server for hosting web sites and remote access to CAD.

2000

All undergraduate provision restructured and incorporated in the university modular programme, subsuming HND and HNC into the degree structure. BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering & BEng (Hons) Electronic & Computer Engineering.

2000

Continuing Education in Electronics Systems Integration (CEESI).  Masters Training Programme (MTP) funded by EPSRC for five years.  Partners at nine University create a 'pool' of modules.

2000

Validation of Advanced Microelectronics for Industrialists extended to include delivery to overseas students.

2003

MSc Advanced Microelectronics for Industrialists revalidated and abbreviated to  MSc Advanced Electronics.   MSc Electronic Design Realisation and MSc Microelectronic Realisation validated.
