About Us
We provide a range of adaptable learning opportunities for both full and part-time students. The subject area is truly multi-disciplinary in nature, offering courses in architectural technology, construction management, civil engineering, building surveying and property management, quantity surveying and commercial management, facilities management, property valuation and planning. The wide range of courses offered enables us to offer students realistic multi-disciplinary project work, a feature in all our undergraduate programmes.
We are continually developing and growing our distinctive range of courses. The HNC courses in Facilities Management, Property Management and Valuation and Planning are unique in the North of England. We have recently developed a degree in Property Development and Interior Design and foundation degrees in Facilities Management, Property Management and Valuation and Planning. The University's long established Health and Safety courses are also hosted by the built environment subject area.
We undertake research and consultancy work in a range of areas including quality in new house building, housing maintenance, facilities management, transportation, water engineering, surveying and materials testing. We are also carrying out research to produce guidance on removing barriers to built environment careers for disabled students.
Our tutors have enthusiasm and industry experience at a professional level which enables them to offer a high level of practical and academic expertise, all of which is supported by our excellent laboratories, IT and library facilities.
Our courses provide the right balance of practical and theoretical work which provides our graduates with both work related and graduate skills thus enabling them to make a positive contribution from their first day in employment. We also have a large number of part-time students, further evidence that our courses are relevant to industry.
All our courses are accredited by, or provide a route to membership of, one or more of the following professional bodies: the Chartered Institute of Building, the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Association of Building Engineers and NEBOSH.
Demand for our full-time graduates and diplomates is very high . Over the past few years all have found employment either before or within one month of graduating and over 95% of our graduates gain employment directly related to their choice of degree or diploma.
