I graduated with a BA (Hons) in Design History in 1991, specializing in music subculture analysis, and soon became involved with the legendary Manchester music scene as a sound engineer and electronic music producer and programmer, working with members of Happy Mondays, Alpinestars, Stockhausen & Walkman and Suns of Arqa to name but a few.
In 2001 I joined the School of Sound Recording (Manchester) as Head of Electronic Music Production and forged the link with the University of Bolton by co-authoring the foundation degree in Sound Engineering and Design. In 2006 I left SSR to form Futureworks, and as Head of Education was responsible for devising, implementing and managing a diverse yet integrated curriculum spanning music production, film & TV production, CGI and games programming.
My role at the University is as the Programme Leader for the Film Production for the Advertising & Music Industries BSc/FdSc, as well as Project Supervisor for third year Sound Engineering students, and I am also undertaking a PGCert in Teaching for Higher Education.
My current interests lie in the fields of sound design for animation, the advent of sound in early cinema, acoustics/psychoacoustics and, the physiological effects of electronic music, particularly with reference to binaural sound.
