Investigate Day Saturday 3rd March 2012
The University of Bolton, in collaboration with the Octagon Theatre, would
like to welcome you to our annual Investigate Day which will explore the
fascinating world of Shakespeare, with particular reference to MacBeth. Key
speakers will take you on a whistle stop tour of Shakespeare and will explore
how his work has transcended across many genres and mediums.
There will be a range of presentations by professionals, who will put Shakespeare
under the microscope for a closer investigation into a man that produced some of
the greats. The speakers include (back by popular demand): Professor Richard
Wilson, from Cardiff University who is an expert in the field of Shakespeare’s
work; Dr. Mel Gibson from the University of Northumbria, who will be discussing
the graphic novel versions of Shakespeare’s work and Brid Andrews, from the
University of Bolton, who this year will be delivering in partnership with Dr. Jami
Rogers and will be discussing the filmic adaptations of the play. Also speaking will
be accomplished actor Simon Trinder, who has appeared in Mike Alfred’s
acclaimed production of ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ at Shakespeare’s Globe
Theatre, the BBC’s ‘ In Search of Shakespeare’ documentary as well as 3 years at the
Royal Shakespeare Company.
This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone working with, studying or has a passion
for Shakespeare’s plays. It will be of particular interest to teachers who want to
find new and innovative methods of using the text with pupils and students.
The Investigate Day will take place at the University of Bolton on Saturday 3rd
March at 10am and will culminate in a viewing of the matinee performance of
MacBeth at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton (subject to purchase and availability).
Places for the Investigate morning at the University are FREE (but limited) and we
are also pleased to announce the availability of a limited number of tickets for the
matinee showing of MacBeth at the Octagon Theatre at a cost of £10.00 per person.
