Local Alumni writer Alan Markland from Standish has beaten competition from thousands of budding authors to have his short story published. 

Retired Royal Navy engineer Alan Markland has been named as one of the finalists of an international writing contest featuring entries from more than 18,000 storytellers.

Alan, 75, from Standish, impressed the judges with his tale entitled A Cold Wind, based on the lives of three soldiers wounded in Afghanistan.

The Competition is hosted by Aesthetica Magazine, http://www.aestheticamagazine.com/ |the British-based bi-monthly arts and culture publication. Aesthetica engages with contemporary art, contextualising it within the larger cultural framework. Founded in 2002, Aesthetica Magazine is one of Britain's leading art publications.
