Philosophy Bursaries

Postgraduate opportunities in Philosophy at the University of Bolton

The School of Arts Media and Education at the University of Bolton is making two studentships available to appropriately qualified applicants to undertake research in 2010. One studentship will be at MPhil level (2 years), the other at PhD level (4 years).

The funding will include part-time registration fees for 2 and 4 years respectively as well as some annual support for conference attendance. One bursary will be in ancient philosophy, the other in Kant or post-Kantian Continental Philosophy. 

Preferred areas of interest in ancient philosophy are: Plato's 'early' dialogues, Aristotle's ethics, and Neoplatonism (Plotinus, Porphyry and Augustine). 

Preferred areas of interest in Kant are: moral and political philosophy, the Kantian account of freedom, and Kantian models of practical reasoning.

Preferred areas in post-Kantian Continental philosophy are: Nietzsche, Deleuze, Bataille and projects exploring the relationship between philosophy and literature.

Preference will be given to candidates with a first-class honours degree in Philosophy or a discipline directly relevant to their research project.
