Welcome to Media Writing and Production
The BA Media, Writing and Production course is a screenwriting and digital film making programme with a strong grounding in critical study. It is taught by lecturers with extensive industry experience. It prepares a diverse, lively and imaginative body of students for creative positions in the moving image industry.
In its initial years, the course has gained industry accreditation for the distinctiveness and strength of its screenwriting provision. We are one of only two undergraduate courses to be able to offer Skillset accreditation in screenwriting. We are seeking to extend this accreditation to the production elements of the course. We have excellent links with industry and a dedicated liaison co-ordinator to ensure that these are kept current.
Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and bring with them a range of different experiences. We value their open-mindedness and ambition. Graduates go on to study masters programmes, work as screen writers and take up assistant positions in the media industry. The skills students develop enable them to be employed in a variety of professional contexts.
We are able to offer some of our students bursaries to study on this course. We provide students with the opportunity to meet industry professionals through events and networking activities. We organise trips to film festivals and other industry events.
"The course combines three quite diverse areas – media/ film theory, media production & screenwriting which really stretches the students creatively" - Carol O'Reilly, External Examiner
