"I have always dreamed of being a teacher. I have faced barriers, but the Education and Learning BA (Hons) not only equips me with the knowledge and skills I need to achieve this, but it inspires and motivates me. Sirin Musa

Professional Graduate Certificate in Education: Teaching Learners with additional Needs | 2017

"During the PGCE I taught Extended Biology on the Access to HE Nursing and Midwifery pathway and delivered on the BTEC Applied Sciences programme. Teacher training was a challenge as it involved, taking on the roles and responsibilities of a teacher, refreshing my scientific knowledge whilst still looking after my family. Despite the pressure and hard work, it was equally rewarding seeing learners progress and succeed on their own learning journeys many of whom were offered places at their university of choice to pursue professions in the health industry. I learned many things about myself, for example, the course allowed me to become more assertive and develop confidence in myself and my abilities.

Since completing the PGCE I have achieved QTLS status and have worked as a community lecturer, teaching Computer skills, a class designed and aimed at ESOL learners. Currently, I am employed as an agency Science lecturer at Bolton college delivering both on the BTEC and Access to HE programmes."

Jen McCallum

Professional Graduate Certificate in Education: History | 2017

"The PGCE at Bolton University was by far the hardest thing I've ever done. The work consumes you, it takes over your life, be prepared to put your life on hold for a year. The support you receive through the course and after is fantastic. No one pretends it is easy.

The job opportunities at the end are fantastic, for me, I wanted to teach in a high school or college so chose this route. I did my placement at a high school with a 6th form, it was a great experience. I now work as a History and Geography teacher in a high school in Bolton. I have also just completed my QTLS which I highly recommend you complete as soon as possible.

Studying for a PGCE at Bolton University you are not just a number, being in small classes means that you get to know your tutor and the people in your class, you constantly feel supported. It was a great experience."

Martin Booth

BA (Hons) Education and Learning |

"On the course, the topics are informative which will endeavour to allow me to gain insights into the English schooling system, therefore improving my chances of teaching. The University classes are inclusive and I've felt welcomed by all at the University of Bolton. "

Katie Heffernan

Postgraduate Certificate in Education (M): Photography | 2017

"I could not recommend the ITE programme at Bolton University more to anyone that wishes to start a career in teaching. The tutors are both supportive and inspiring and the lessons they deliver really instil you with the skills/knowledge and confidence ready to be implemented within a Teaching Placement. Amanda Turner along with my mentor at my placement made my time on the ITE programme a successful one, one which helped me secure a full time teaching role. By the end of the course I felt extremely proud that I had completed something that I had kept putting off, it’s the best thing I have done and I would happily do the course again."

Kirstie Potter

Certificate in Education: Beauty Therapy | 2017

"I have a part-time job teaching job at Bolton College and do additional hours every week. My PGCE was the best thing I’ve ever done I absolutely love my job!"
