Stand Out in a Creative Field with a Postgraduate Arts Degree

“The idea is to not live forever; it is to create something that will” – Andy Warhol.

The fascinating thing about art is that it provides a creative gateway to express our feelings. As a form of expressionism that every artist interprets differently depending on their perception of life, art often reflects a poetic description of reality

Does art give you the freedom to express yourself? If you have a creative arts degree, you might be wondering what you can do with it. In this blog, we are going to explore how a postgraduate degree can help you stand out in a creative field and help you not only follow your passion but increase your skillset.

Develop your Knowledge of Liberal Arts

Those who are interested in modern art will know that the sector is shaping much more towards liberal arts than fine arts. Subsequently, a master’s degree in art can help you focus on developing your creative skills in areas such as art history, art and design, and art therapy. This can lead you down the following career paths:

- Animator

- Art Teacher

- Art Therapist

- Graphic Designer

- Performing Artist

Gain Creative Industry Experience

In an industry that represents so many creative forms, with painting alone including modernism, impressionism, and surrealism, it’s never been more important to understand the different types of art that are out there. Whether you’re a creative arts graduate or are already working, we offer an MA Arts Management and an MA Applied and Community Arts (with Specialism) course. With these, our students get the chance to work on live projects with different arts and cultural organisations across Greater Manchester and the Northwest. Giving students the opportunity to not only develop their creativity but also help these organisations engage their respective communities more effectively.

Increase your Employability

There is a great opportunity for graduates looking to develop their talents with a master’s degree in art. In 2021, the employment rate for working-age postgraduates in high-skilled employment was 77.4%, in comparison to 65.2% for those with an undergraduate degree; due to the well-rounded knowledge and skills that postgraduate students learn. For instance, on the MA Arts Management course at Bolton University, students learn to develop their practical, real-world arts management skills that they will need for either freelancing, starting their own company, or securing employment.

Join a Happy and Inclusive University

By becoming a postgraduate member of the Bolton School of the Arts, we can help you develop your creative skills. As a school that has been helping and supporting students for over 150 years, we are proud of our supportive and positive teaching! Providing a purpose-built learning environment for graduates in animation and illustration, art and design, performing arts, English and creative writing, fashion, graphic design, and media and photography, we offer a teaching-intensive, research-informed approach to helping our master’s students continue their passion.

How long will a master’s art degree take?

One of the deciding factors for graduates choosing to complete a master’s degree is whether they want to stay in education for the extra time it will take to earn their MA. The duration of most master’s degrees is just 12 months and a postgraduate arts degree at Bolton is no exception. Enrolling in September 2023 means that fast-forward a year and you will have the real-world knowledge to succeed as a professional arts practitioner.
