Julia Marden

Lecturer

Having qualified as a nurse in 2002, I commenced my career on the Gastroenterology Ward at The Royal Bolton Hospital where I spent the next seven years learning and developing my clinical skills and developing my evidence-based knowledge. I gained extensive experience in Endoscopy procedures and also completed extra training in order to become specialised in caring for patients who required enteral nutrition. I developed a keen interest in the role of mentor for pre-registration nurses. In order for me to support their learning, I completed my Prep For Mentorship module at the University Of Bolton in 2008. I then continued to study at The University Of Bolton and completed my BSc Hons in Professional Health Studies. In 2009 I worked in the Community setting at Salford caring for patients and their families in their own homes before continuing my career in Bolton NHS Trust as a Community Staff Nurse.

In 2014 I continued my studies at The University Of Bolton in Community Specialist Practice, which I completed in 2015. Following successful completion of the Community Specialist Practitioner course, I worked as a District Nursing Sister within the Bolton trust. I continued to have an interest in the education of pre-registration students and enjoyed my role of mentor and eventually became the practice educator lead for my clinical area. While developing in my role as a District Nursing Sister, I also completed my Master's Degree at the University Of Bolton in 2017 and commenced my V300 Non-Medical Prescribing in 2017.

In April 2018, I commenced in my current post as Lecturer in Health at the University Of Bolton. I Believe that with my knowledge acquired throughout my career as a Nurse and my continual professional development coupled with my passion for teaching, I can support students on the Trainee Nurse Apprenticeship programme both at the university and also in their clinical placement areas. I strive to continue to develop my knowledge base and learning in order that I can continue to provide students with Evidence-based knowledge. My aim is that future students of the University will also develop an interest in lifelong learning and feel confident in providing safe, dignified and compassionate care.
