Ben Hughes

Lecturer - Health

After studying at university, I have spent most of the last 20 years teaching in higher education. I bring a multi-disciplinary approach to teaching across Health and Social Care and Nursing programmes.

My PhD focused on advance care planning with young people and I have a particular interest in the experiences and engagement of young people in their advance care planning process. I am also interested in research which explores and informs policy around vulnerable groups, marginalised populations, socially excluded populations, young people, health, and education. I am currently undertaking and supporting a variety of research projects in these areas.

I am a member of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Children and Young People’s Palliative Care Zonal Network and the Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and am currently involved in developing and evaluating an e-learning nursing curriculum at the University of Bolton.
