AdvDip(CPD) Clinical Skills for Community and General Practice Nursing Specific (Adult) (HE7)

• You must offer current professional registration as a health or social care practitioner; for example, registered nurse, allied health professional, or paramedic.
• You will also normally need to provide evidence of post-registration experience of professional practice as well as a first degree relevant to your health or social care practice.
• It is preferable for you to have current employment in a community setting or general practice to fulfil the practice element of this course.
• You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.
• If English isn’t your first language, you’ll also need IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band (or equivalent). We also accept a range of other English language qualifications – please visit our English Language Requirements web page for more details.

This course offers academic progression in the specialist fields of adult community and general practice nursing.

Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £800 for the academic year 2024/25.

Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £800 for the academic year 2024/25.

Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2023-2024 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. The fees for a student's course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

This advanced professional development course focuses on building your knowledge and understanding of practical examination skills. Lectures are supplemented with practical sessions where you learn the specific skills required for each system discussed during the course. The practical aspects will involve developing clinical examination skills possibly using mannequins, peers and, in some cases, service users in our community simulation suite. We offer a safe and supportive environment where you can develop your clinical examination skills under the supervision of our experienced team.

As well as lectures and tutorials, a range of web-based resources will be made available to you via Moodle, the University's virtual learning environment, to aid you in achieving the knowledge requirement identified. E-learning is also provided via Moodle to enable you to undertake further study in a place and at a time that is convenient for you. This programme adopts a blended learning and teaching style, including online delivery and engagement where appropriate.

Formative assessment supports your learning but does not contribute to your final mark. You'll receive feedback from your tutors and peers that allows you to reflect on your progress and identify what you are doing well and where you may need extra help. Summative assessment tests your achievement of the intended learning outcomes for the course and determines your final mark. For this course, it will involve a written case review and objective structured clinical examinations to assess your knowledge of the systems and findings and apply these in a range of clinical situations.
