  • You should have at least a lower second class honours degree (2:2) in law or another relevant subject (or a comparable qualification from a UK or overseas institution).
  • If you don’t possess the above qualifications but have substantial managerial or employment experience, we’ll be happy to consider your application.
  • All application forms need to be accompanied by a reflective overview of the managerial responsibilities undertaken to date. A letter of reference on headed paper from the current/most recent employer should also be provided clearly showing the length of employment and a breakdown of roles and responsibilities.
  • We'll consider applications where appropriate work experience can be demonstrated in lieu of, or in addition to, the published academic qualifications in line with the University’s Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) procedures.
  • You may be required to attend an interview and/or provide a portfolio of work.

The University of Bolton's LLM International Business Law is an advanced academic degree that allows you to explore a selection of legal issues in more depth. What can I do with this qualification?

There is an increasing demand in the wider public and private sectors for professionals who have an advanced understanding of specialist legal areas of international business law. For instance, employees of international business monitoring bodies will benefit from a strong understanding of contemporary financial and economic crime laws in the UK and abroad. Aspiring business leaders and financial experts will also find the knowledge of corporate, financial and trade law invaluable during their careers.

Furthermore, although the LLM is not a qualifying law degree (QLD) for the purpose of qualifying as a practicing lawyer, this qualification can help you to gain entry to the Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) if you wish to become a solicitor or the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) if you wish to become a barrister. An LLM can also be a stepping stone to a PhD.

Course fees

Home students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Home fee of £8,496 for the academic year 2024/25.

Overseas students starting this course in the first year will be required to pay a Overseas fee of £15,950 for the academic year 2024/25.

Important note regarding tuition fees for the 2023-2024 academic year: EU nationals who meet residency requirements (have settled or pre-settled status) may be eligible for 'Home' fee status. If you do not meet these residency requirements, overseas fees will apply. Irish citizens living in the UK or Ireland will be eligible for 'Home' fee status under the Common Travel Area arrangement. The fees for a student's course of study will be set for the normal duration of that course subject only to inflationary increases – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) recorded in March each year to take effect for subsequent start dates.

We use various teaching and learning methods to help you acquire and develop the appropriate skills, concepts, and knowledge needed to succeed in the LLM International Business Law.

You'll be expected to participate in formally-timetabled classes with tutors as well as undertake a significant amount of independent study. This independent study time will include reading, preparing for seminar activities, working on assignments, and revising for exams.
